Michelle Puster M. Ed., LPC | Individual, Couples & Marriage Counseling
A little back story into how counseling became my passion and chosen career path
Growing up my family was affected by alcoholism and other mental health issues. During early adulthood, residual effects of my childhood continued to impact my outlook and relationships. A trusted adult mentor suggested I see a counselor. At that time in my life I had been to counseling before and had some negative experiences. But because my trusted friend guided me to this therapist I was hopeful. My counselor was caring, understanding, and nonjudgmental. I developed a trusting relationship with her. Through the therapeutic relationship I learned about myself, I found hope, and I began to believe in my ability to cope with life’s challenges. I even brought my then boyfriend, now husband of 10 years, into a few sessions. We still occasionally reference guidance she provided. This experience had a lasting impact on me. I knew then I wanted to provide the same hope to others in pain that my counselor had provided for me.

As a therapist I meet each client where they are and apply appropriate therapies, methods, and strategies as needed. I am a Person Centered therapist, meaning I believe my clients are the experts in their lives. I use an empathic approach that empowers and motivates the client in the therapeutic process. I believe that each of my clients has the ability to reach their goals and their full potential. In couples therapy I use the Gottman and Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy Methods to help couples learn and understand the cycles in their conflicts and how to break free of damaging patterns in their relationships.
When asked: What was the best part of your experience working with Michelle? What should we keep doing?
